This Privacy Policy explains what information Medo Ventures LLC ("Medo Ventures," "we," "us") collects through WattAscent, including the website at wattascent.com, the web app at app.wattascent.com and the WattAscent apps for iPhone, iPad and Android (together, the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Some of the information WattAscent uses, like heart rate, bike fit symptoms and body measurements, is health-related. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy describes how we handle that data and how to exercise your rights over it. The short version: we don't sell your data, we don't use your training, fit or health data for advertising, and we use it to coach you.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name, email address and the link to your Google profile picture.
- Profile and training settings: weight (to calculate watts per kilogram), height, preferred units, optional birth month and year, experience level, resting and maximum heart rate, functional threshold power (FTP), weekly schedule and time available, goal events, routes you import, and plan and coach preferences.
- Bike fit, if you use it: your answers and measurements, described in Bike fit below.
- Feedback: post-ride effort ratings, answers to our check-in survey, and whether you found a help article useful.
- Messages: what you send our help desk by email, through the help center form or from the app, including any attachments, and your rating of our reply.
- Codes and offers: any promo code you redeem and the offer it gives you.
- Your agreements: when you agreed to our Terms of Service, this Privacy Policy and our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which versions, and the browser or app you used.
Information from your devices
When you ride, WattAscent connects to your smart trainer, power meter and heart rate monitor over Bluetooth. It records power, cadence, speed, heart rate and workout timing, and saves the ride to your account. It also records the results of tests and readiness checks.
The mobile apps ask for permission to use Bluetooth (to connect your devices) and, only if you use bike fit, your camera. During a ride they keep running when your screen is locked so your workout continues. They contain no advertising or third-party analytics software.
Bike fit
WattAscent Fit measures your position on the bike from a short video and suggests small changes. Before you use it for the first time, the app explains what it collects and asks for your consent.
- What you enter: what the bike is for, your height, whether you can touch your toes, your saddle height and, optionally, crank length, saddle tilt and any symptoms on the bike (such as pain or numbness, where it is, how bad it is and when it started).
- Safety questions: a few questions about warning signs (such as numbness that lasts off the bike or a recent injury). If you tick one, the app suggests seeing a doctor or physiotherapist instead of changing your bike. These answers aren't saved.
- Your video stays on your device. You film yourself pedaling (or choose a clip you already have). The video is measured on your phone or computer by a body-tracking model that runs on the device, and it's discarded when you close the screen. It's never uploaded to us or anyone else.
- What we keep: the measured angles of your knees, hips, torso, shoulders and elbows, your bike's original and current settings, the changes we suggested and you made, and your check ride and re-test results. If you're signed in, we also keep a short (about 8-second) clip of the measurement overlay with your face pixelated, at most two per bike (the first and the latest). Clips are kept in private storage that only you can open.
- The body-tracking model: the first time you use bike fit, the app downloads the model file from Google's servers, so Google receives your IP address and standard request information. Your video and measurements are never sent to Google.
- Who sees it: only you. WattAscent staff can't see your bike fit answers, measurements or clips.
Bike fit suggestions are general guidance, not medical advice. If something hurts badly or doesn't go away, see a doctor or physiotherapist.
Information from Strava, if you connect it
With your permission, we receive your Strava profile basics and activities, including activity type, date, duration, distance, power, heart rate and best efforts, plus your FTP if you've saved one in Strava. We store summaries of those activities (such as power curve and heart-rate training load), not the full data streams, and use them to count all of your training, not just indoor rides. Strava access tokens are stored securely on our servers and never in your browser. Strava limits how many riders an app can connect; if you try while WattAscent is full, we note that you tried so we can email you when there's room.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive only what we need to manage your subscription, such as your name, email address, billing country and postal code, the last four digits of your card, and payment, refund and dispute status. We never see or store your full card number.
Website chat
The "Ask a question" chat on wattascent.com answers questions about WattAscent. When you use it, we keep what you type and the answers, the page you were on and the page or campaign that brought you to our website, your approximate country, your browser type, and a scrambled (salted and hashed) version of your IP address that we use to prevent abuse. If you leave your email address so we can follow up, we keep that too. Answers are written by Anthropic's Claude AI model, so your messages are sent to Anthropic to generate them. Please don't share health information or anything sensitive in the chat.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs: our hosting providers record technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, pages requested and timestamps. These logs are used to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the Service.
- Usage in the app: when you're signed in, the app records short notes about how it's used, such as opening the app, steps of setting up, starting and finishing a ride (with the workout type and how much of it you completed), changes to your FTP, connecting or losing a device, connecting Strava, and coach settings, together with the app version, browser and operating system. When you sign up, it also notes how you found us: the website that sent you and any campaign tags or chat reference in the link. These notes are linked to your account so they're deleted with it. We look at them in aggregate to improve WattAscent, and we don't share them with analytics or advertising companies. You can turn them off in the app under Edit profile, Privacy.
- Error reports: if something breaks in the app, it sends us the error message and where it happened, so we can fix it.
- Sign-in and settings storage: the app stores your sign-in session, and some settings, in your browser or device so you stay signed in. If you use WattAscent without signing in, your training data is kept only in your browser.
- Fonts: our website and app load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
Cookies and similar technologies
On wattascent.com we use three kinds:
- Strictly necessary. Needed for the website to work. We keep your cookie choices in your browser and in a cookie that wattascent.com and the WattAscent app can share, so you only choose once. The website chat also keeps a reference to your conversation in your browser so it can pick up where you left off.
- Analytics, only with your permission. Analytics tools help us understand how visitors use the website, such as which pages they read and how they found us. We also keep the campaign tags (such as utm_source) from the link that brought you to our website in a cookie for up to 180 days, so we know which campaigns bring us riders.
- Marketing, only with your permission. Advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies so they can show WattAscent ads to people who have visited our website, and tell us which ads led to visits and sign-ups. These partners may combine this with information they already have about you, under their own privacy policies.
Cookie settings names the analytics and marketing providers in use on the website at any time. Analytics and marketing cookies run only if you allow them in the cookie banner, and you can change your choices at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to keep marketing cookies off.
Analytics and marketing cookies are only on our website. The WattAscent app uses no advertising cookies or third-party analytics, and nothing about your training, rides, bike fit or health is ever shared with analytics or advertising partners.
2. How we use information
- To coach you: to build and adjust your training plan, set power and heart rate targets, estimate and update your FTP, track your workout levels, training load, fitness and fatigue, and run readiness checks and tests.
- To fit your bike: to measure your position, compare it with ranges for how you ride, suggest changes, size them, and check whether they worked and felt better.
- To run your account, sign you in, and manage your subscription, offers and codes.
- To send you service emails, such as sign-in links and codes, a welcome email, a check-in from our founder a few weeks after you start, receipts, renewal reminders reminders before free time ends, and a note when there's room to connect Strava if you tried while it was full. We'll only send marketing emails if you've agreed to them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- To answer questions in the website chat and the help desk, and to follow up when you ask us to.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To improve WattAscent, using aggregated or de-identified information wherever we can.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
Automated decisions. WattAscent's adaptive engine automatically adjusts your training, and bike fit automatically suggests changes to your bike, using rules based on published sports-science research. These are recommendations only. You can always change your FTP, plan, workout or bike yourself, and nothing changes on your bike unless you make the change.
No AI training on your data. We don't use your training, Strava, bike fit or health data to train artificial intelligence models, and we don't share Strava data with others.
3. How we share information
We don't sell your personal information, and we never share your training, ride, bike fit or health information for advertising. If you allow marketing cookies on wattascent.com, our advertising partners receive information about your visit to the website, as described in Cookies and similar technologies. Some state privacy laws call this "sharing" personal information for advertising. You can turn it off at any time with Cookie settings or a Global Privacy Control signal.
Otherwise, we share personal information only:
- With service providers who run parts of the Service for us under contracts that limit their use of your information:
- Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage (including bike fit overlay clips) and server functions;
- Cloudflare: website and app hosting, security and bot protection;
- Resend: sending our emails and receiving the emails you send us;
- Stripe: payments;
- Anthropic: writing answers in the website chat (it receives chat messages only, never your account or training data).
- With Google, if you choose to sign in with Google, and when your browser loads fonts or the bike fit body-tracking model from Google's servers, as described above.
- With Strava, at your direction: if you connect Strava and choose to upload rides, we send those rides to Strava. Bike fit data is never sent to Strava.
- For legal reasons: if required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, Medo Ventures or others.
- In a business transfer: if Medo Ventures is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Your information would remain protected by this policy, and we'd tell you before it became subject to a different one.
- With your consent in any other case.
If you download a WattAscent app from Apple's App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handles that download under its own privacy policy.
4. How long we keep information
- Your account and training data, including bike fit data, are kept while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, and copies in backups are removed within a further 30 days.
- Bike fit video is never stored. We keep at most two overlay clips per bike and delete older ones automatically.
- Website chat conversations are deleted 12 months after the last message.
- App error reports are deleted after 90 days.
- Help desk conversations are kept so we can help you with later questions, and deleted on request.
- Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Security records of what our staff did in our admin tools are kept to protect your account and our systems.
5. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls that keep each rider's data separate, and limited staff access. To answer support requests, a small number of WattAscent staff can view a rider's account, profile and settings, recent rides, plan and payments, emails and support history. They can't change your training data, they can't see your bike fit answers, measurements or clips, and every action they take is logged. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you if a breach affects it, as the law requires.
6. Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- see and correct your profile and training settings in the app;
- delete individual rides in the app;
- ask for a copy of your personal information, or download your rides;
- delete your bike fit data, or your account and all of your personal information;
- disconnect Strava at any time;
- turn off usage notes in the app under Edit profile, Privacy;
- unsubscribe from marketing emails;
- allow or refuse analytics and marketing cookies on our website, and change your choice at any time with Cookie settings.
To make a request, email hello@wattascent.com. We'll confirm it's you before acting, respond within 45 days, and won't treat you differently for using your rights. You may have further rights where you live (for example in California, the European Union or the United Kingdom), and we honor them. If you're unhappy with our response, you can contact your local data protection authority.
For rights over health-related data, including Washington consumer health data rights, see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
7. Where your data is stored
WattAscent is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use WattAscent from another country, your information will be transferred to the United States.
8. Children
WattAscent is for adults 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, email hello@wattascent.com and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we'll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect, and update the effective date above.
